KOTD’s Organik Addresses Violence In Battle Rap

Exclusive: King of the Dot’s Organik explains why he laughs when people connect violence with Hip Hop.

In the heat of the moment, some Battle Rap artists have gone from a war of words to the throwing of punches. High profile brawls occurred in 2013, with Math Hoffa punching Serius Jones at SMACK/URL’s “Summer Madness 4” and Hollow Da Don’s scuffle with John John Da Don at UW Battle League’s “Face-Off” promo event.

Organik, who is the founder and owner of King of the Dot, recently spoke with HipHopDX about how he feels regarding violence and how it has been connected to Battle Rap by some.

“Everyone always attaches violence to Hip Hop and I can always do nothing but laugh,” Organik says in an exclusive statement with HipHopDX. “We’ve held over 200 Rap Battle events where almost over 2,000 battles have happened and throughout our five years, we’ve had maybe one-two fights and nobody has ever really gotten hurt. They’re more scuffles than anything. Hip Hop or not, to put that into a ratio that’s a very low violence rate at events with such high attendance numbers.”
Organik Says Violence Can Be Found “Everywhere”

According to Organik, who is planning his January 24-25 “Blackout 4” event, also says violence is a bigger concern in other entertainment fields.

“There is violence everywhere,” Organik says. “You watch violence in baseball games, hockey, football, basketball, hell, we’ve even seen it in badminton. Competitive sports have emotions running high. Of course violence can tarnish it, but its not the end of the world as long as everyone goes home and wakes up okay. We keep a very positive vibe and make sure that all of our fans and emcees do the same.”

In September 2013, SMACK/URL banned Math Hoffa from its league for punching Serius Jones.

“I just want all the fans to know that we don’t condone that type of behavior here at the URL,” SMACK said in a video blog. “We don’t support it in no way, shape or form. At this point forward, as it stands right now, Math is definitely, definitely banned from the URL and won’t be able to participate in none of the URL events, just due to the situation that happened and the liability that it may bring to our business. It’s unfortunate because that’s my brother at the end of the day. I don’t hate Math. I just hate what he did. You gotta definitely hold your emotions, when we performing.

In October, Math Hoffa spoke about being banned from the league he called home for years.

“SMACK has chilled at my house before,” Math Hoffa said at the time. “I’ve been to his. Beasley is actually a failed experiment to clone me. We’re cool but we definitely don’t see eye-to-eye on a few issues. I wish them the best, but without Hoffa, it wont be the same. They know that too. We’ll see what the future holds, but for now. We’re cool from a distance.”

In December, Hollow Da Don spoke about punching John John Da Don at a promotional event.

“Negative shit brings more negative shit,” Hollow said in a video blog about the scuffle. “I did some negative shit so I expect more negative shit. I regret it, but it’s something I’ve gotta live with. We all make mistakes. Everybody’s human. Shit happens…I came and brought some negative shit to a positive environment.”

King of the Dot’s “Blackout 4” event is slated to feature Dizaster Vs. Pat Stay for the KOTD championship chain. Big T and Bender are the other co-headliners.
